How To Gain More Engagement On LinkedIn With Proper Post Practices [Infographic]

Social Media

If you're in business you need to be on LinkedIn. With social media becoming such a strong part of your inbound marketing toolkit, you need to publish to the big four social networks.

One mistake I see a lot of businesses making is they publish the same content with the same format across all the different networks.

Please, don't do this.

With each social network having its own unique user persona you need to follow best practices for each individual social network.

In order to get a better understanding of how it works and how your business should use it best, we have to tip our hat the the people at imarc for creating this great infographic. There are some awesome tips about increasing your engagement on LinkedIn.

Proper Post Length

Think about the last time you were on LinkedIn. There were probably a lot of posts in your feed.

The ones you actually read and engaged with were likely all around the same length.

Studies have shown that the ideal post length for LinkedIn is between 500 - 1200 words, with less being more. People’s attention spans are growing shorter every year so you don’t want to bore them. Remember to use proper formatting and lots of white space to make a shorter post seem longer.

Proper Post Timing

If you've been posting to social media for sometime now you know how stressful it can be when you make a post that you think is great and everybody's going to like it but then nobody engages with you. We now know that LinkedIn members check their profiles usually in the morning on Monday and Friday between 10:00 - 11:00 am.

It’s one thing to know when people are checking our profile but your goal with your inbound marketing is to have people engage with your content: The best times for posting content that gets engagement is between 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 6:oo pm, according to this infographic.

Studies have also shown that posting 20 status updates a month will help you to increase your reach by 60%.

Links, Videos And Images

The quality of your content in your posts on social media is important but what we have found that it is vital to have the correct format in which you post that content, for example linking to YouTube results in the 75% higher share rate on your posts. Content with images get a 98% higher comment rate. By including a link with your post delivers 200% more engagement and also company updates that don't have an image receive 98% less comments than those that do have images.

Sharable Words

We know that different groups of people have different vocabularies that they like to use with each other studies have shown that the most shareable posts on LinkedIn are ones that contain the words shown in the infographic below.
