This is a question most businesses ask when they start out on social media. It's good to understand that men and women do social differently. More importantly though, the times you post have a huge impact on the amount of engagement you get. Here, you'll find out everything you need to know about posting on the most influential and popular social networks: 

Facebook

  • Thursday and Friday are the best days to post on this popular social network. 
  • 86% of posts are published during the work week, with engagement peaking on Thursday and Friday. 
  • Engagement rates fall 3.5% below average for posts published Monday through Wednesday.
  • In correlation, the "Happiness Index" on Facebook spikes by 10% on Friday.
  • Posting at 1PM will get the most shares, with 3PM being the optimal time to get the most clicks.
  • Generally, anytime between 9am and 7pm is a good time to post on Facebook.

Twitter

  • 5pm is the best time to tweet for retweets. 
  • 12pm and 6pm are optimal times for highest CTR. This could be due to lunch breaks and people looking for something to keep them occupied on the commute home after work.

Business to Business (B2B)

Weekdays provide 14% more engagement than weekends. The guess is that businesses work with other businesses during the weekdays, where consumers explore with brands during the weekend.

Business to Consumer (B2C)

Engagements and CTRs are highest on weekends and Wednesdays. According to Dan Zarrella, Twitter engagement for brands is 17% higher on weekends.

LinkedIn

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the best days to post.
  • Generally, weekdays during business hours are the best time to post for optimal engagement.
  • Most clicks and shares occur on Tuesdays between 10am - 11am.
  • 93% of B2B marketers rate LinkedIn as the top B2B social media lead generation source.
  • LinkedIn consists primarily of a B2B audience, which is likely the reason why the highest engagement rates are during weekdays and business hours.
  • The best posting times are generally between 7am - 8am and 5pm - 6pm.

Pinterest

  • The best times to pin are on Saturdays from 2am - 4am and 8pm - 11pm.
  • Besides Saturday, the best times to pin during the day are between 2-4pm EST and 8pm to 1am EST.
  • The peak time to post on Pinterest for fashion and retail is Fridays at 3pm.
  • Pinterest activity peaks at around 9pm.

Instagram

  • Engagement on Instagram stays consistent throughout the week, with slight spikes on Mondays and a slight dip on Sundays.
  • Fortune 500 companies overwhelmingly put photos up on Instagram during business hours, with posts spiking between 3pm-4pm EST.
  • For optimum engagement, it's best to post videos after work hours.

Google+

  • On Google+, social media posts on Wednesdays at 9am do the best in terms of social applause and engagement.
  • According to Buffer, late morning during weekdays are the best to share on Google+.

Note: These are general guidelines for optimum posting times. You should still be frequently checking your own social insights and scheduling updates at the times when most of your followers are online.
